A Question to Ask

The question of "What am I doing on this blog?" has been asked. I wanted to address that question. In the past, I have used reaction papers to encourage reflection on the material. Since this class is undertaking this community engagement exercise, I wanted to encourage a discussion of that process among the class members. I believe this semester will create a lasting benefit for the community and I hope students will become excited about the prospect of helping the local historical society.

Historic Winter Park Website

I am excited to find out more about the history of Winter Park. Because we are living in Winter Park I feel like we will become more invested in the history of the city. It is easier to appreciate a city when you understand the history that brought it to its current state. I work in the Admisssions office and am required to know a lot about the history of Rollins, and it will be interesting to see how it correlates to the history of Winter Park.It is also nice to be doing something for our city. The city of Winter Park contributes a lot to the Rollins community, so it is only fair that we give back to them.

Helping Winter Park

In history class, you always assume you will be learning about international or national historical events and how they have shaped the country, however I think that is it a good idea to study about our local community. Also we are helping the community out by providing information about its history and others will be able to learn from our work.
im not really sure what we are supposed to be writing about on these blogs

First Day

First Day of class has come and gone and it not even 10:00 a.m. On the upside, nobody got up and ran out screaming, on the downside, no tears of joy--yet. The prospect of starting a digital history project is new and challenging regardless of the setting. Lets hope that we can create content that will benefit students and the public alike.
